Examples:
 
2D5/2 it's called: doublet    D   five halves

the state with S = 1/2, L = 2 and J = 5/2 
6H13/2 it's called: sextet   H   thirteen halves

the state with S = 5/2, L = 5 and J = 13/2
1S0 it's called: singlet   S   zero

the state with S = 0, L = 0 and J = 0

The kinetic moments S = 1 and L = 1 can principally give total kinetic moments J = 0, 1, 2. The possible states are then the following:
