This section concentrates on some methods which allow high time resolution. The
generation of extremely short and intense laser pulses has opened the way for the study of fast
transient phenomena, such as chemical reactions in gases and liquids. Recent progress in the
generation of picosecond (
sec) and femtosecond (
sec) light pulses makes
possible investigation of ultrafast processes occurring during excitation and deactivation of
molecular states in solvent.
